Along with cosmetic dental treatments like teeth whitening, there is a growing trend towards intervening in the ageing process to keep us looking as young and youthful as possible. One of the first signs that we are starting to grow a little older is the appearance of lines and wrinkles on our faces. Over time, these start to grow, both in number and visibility. There are creams and potions available that claim to help with this of course, but the likelihood is that they will only delay the inevitable.
Increasingly then, people are turning to facial aesthetic treatments such as those available at our Edinburgh New Town dental clinic. By using facial aesthetic clinicians within a dental environment, you can be sure that you will receive the correct care and not end up with some of the extreme, and frankly quite bizarre, results that have become prevalent in some sections of the media these days, especially where celebrities are concerned.
Our team is fully trained and experienced and you will be in safe hands. We reserve the right to refuse any requests that we consider to be extreme or potentially dangerous.
Many of you will have read of anti wrinkle treatments that have gone wrong, leaving the recipient with a βfrozen faceβ. You can safely ignore these if you have your treatment carried out at the 103 Dental and Implant Practice. The procedure itself is straightforward and, providing that it is carried out by skilled clinicians, you should not need to worry about this.
To reduce the wrinkles, an injection is carried out just under the surface of the skin using a very fine needle. You should feel little more than a small pricking sensation during this procedure. The serum used then works by gradually causing the muscles to relax and smoothing out the wrinkles. The results can last for some time and our clinicians will be able to advise on this. For some people, a one off treatment is perfect for their needs; for example if they want to look their best for a one off event such as a wedding etc. For those requiring longer term smoother skin, repeated treatments will be required and we can offer advice on this during your initial consultation with us.
There should be little or no side effects from this procedure but there may be a little surface bruising which will soon recede. As these may be visible, you might wish to plan your treatment away from any significant social occasions.
Some lines and wrinkles are caused by a loss of collagen over the years which provides the skin with its elasticity. By using dermal fillers which contain hyaluronic acid, this can be injected into these areas to replace the lost collagen and provide more elasticity to your skin.
They can be used on lines and wrinkles as well as scars and other facial flaws. They can also be used to refine your facial contours. As with anti wrinkle treatments, there should be little discomfort from this procedure.
Similar to the above, a loss of collagen can also cause our lips to thin, losing the plumpness that we had when we were younger. If you are unhappy with your thinning lips and would like to see what we can do to help, we recommend that you contact us for an initial consultation so that we can discuss the various options with you.
As with the more bizarre versions of anti wrinkle treatments, there have been some extreme results from people having lip fillers carried out abroad or by inexperienced practitioners; the now famous βtrout poutβ being a good example of this. Please do not be concerned about this, and, if you do have any concerns about any of these treatments before you have them, please speak to our friendly clinicians who will be able to help you.
Patients who have facial aesthetic treatments are also more likely to want a great looking smile as well, and that is something which our Edinburgh cosmetic dentists can help you with. If you have smoother and younger looking skin, it makes sense to do the same to your teeth too, and with treatments such as teeth whitening and veneers, we can help you to have a youthful smile to go along with your new and more youthful appearance.
